Blake at the Movies
Summer 2010, In Review
Miles traveled by plane: 15,776
Cities Visited: Cannes, France; Salzberg, Austria; Monaco; Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO
Approximate number of hours spent commuting in L.A. traffic to my internship: 100, about 4 days in total.
Number of films I screened at the Cannes Film Festival: 29
Celebrities I met: Demi Moore, Miley Cyrus, Ryan Gosling, Gabourey Sidibe, Daniel Franseze and Douglas Booth; Celebrities I spotted: Michelle Williams, James Franco, Naomi Campbell, Juliette Binoche, Kristin Scott Thomas, Carey Mulligan, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Beckinsale, Mario Lopez, Shia Labeouf, Michael Douglas, Oliver Stone, Josh Hutcherson, Lucal Grabeel and Sam Trammell.

Best moment: Demi Moore calling me by name and asking me how my day was going.
Number of blocks away from Rodeo Dr. my office was located: 4
Memorable films that my bosses at Double Feature Films have produced: “Pulp Fiction,” “Erin Brockovich,” and “Garden State,” among others.
How I feel about the industry after being submerged all summer: It’s 100% where I want to work. It’s hectic; it’s stressful; and it’s competitive. I think it’s almost impossible for someone who hasn’t gotten a taste of working in the industry to understand why anyone would want to do it. The bosses are demanding and often mean; the hours are long and the pay isn’t high — well, not at first anyway. I learned, however, that the film industry is filled with passionate people who do what they do because they love doing it. If they didn’t love it, they would have given up and gone home years ago. This is where I need to be, surrounded by people like me who just want to tell stories and make movies.
Final thoughts: Was that real life?
Photos from the California segment of my summer can be found here.
I truly did get to live my dream this summer. How many people can say that?
