Blake at the Movies
A Random Collection of Thoughts and Anecdotes

1) Friends in the City

I was very sad to take Brittany, Cortney and Monica back to LAX today and send them back to Georgia. And while I know he is going to have such an amazing time in Australia, I hated that Tanner had to leave us last Friday night as well. I miss all of my friends back east so much, and it’s wonderful that some have and will be coming out to visit me here in L.A. I enjoyed showing Tanner, Brittany, Cortney, and Monica around the city and spending time at Brittany’s aunt and uncle’s incredible mansion in the valley. They are neighbors with Jerry Bruckheimer and Mary-Kate Olsen. Enough said. We hiked to try and see Mary-Kate’s house last night, and we even heard someone say her name, but trees and fences foiled our plans. We did find a great view of fireworks in the valley, though, so it wasn’t a complete letdown.

2) Starstruck

After my last post, I had another run-in with the breathtaking Demi Moore. The day after I got to meet her, I was back at her house to pick up Lisa and deliver another script. Lisa wasn’t quite finished when I got there — I could hear her and Demi talking in the kitchen — so I sat down by the door and read a book while I waiting. I was deep into my novel when I heard someone say, “Blake, how are you doing today?” I turned and the breath was immediately knocked out of my chest. Demi Moore was standing right in front of me. She looked beautiful, of course, and she had a big smile on her face. Just when I thought I was getting over being starstruck, she had to go and do that. I managed to respond, saying “I’m doing great, Demi, how are you?” She said she was fine, then told me that I was more than welcome to go sit in the kitchen and get a drink rather than sit out by the door. Then she was off to an appointment. The hours are long and tasks are often mundane, but this internship certainly has its perks.

3) I Work For Badasses

The longer I’m at DFF, the more I realize that my bossess are rockstars. The other day I was cleaning out Michael’s office, and behind the door I found several framed certificates on the wall from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that congratulated him on being nominated for an Oscar. After looking around a bit, I found similar certificates in Stacy’s office. On Friday I found an Academy member card in Stacy’s assistant’s desk, along with her credit cards. Then, one of the assistants informed me that Stacy was in a relationship with Quinten Tarantino years ago and she helped him write “Pulp Fiction” when they were on a road trip together. WHAT?! Is this real life? I’m so fortunate to be able to work around and learn from such seasoned professionals. I’m amazed every day at how awesome the two of them are.

4) And the Oscar Goes To…

Speaking of the Academy Awards, I finally got to tour the Kodak Theater, the location where the Oscars have been held the past few years. It was so funny because I was walking in the back of the line giving my own commentary. “Sally Field also won for ‘Places in the Heart,’ not just ‘Norma Rae’… Oh my goodness, look at that picture of Halle Berry and Denzel Washington on the year they won for ‘Monster’s Ball’ and ‘Training Day’…” You get the idea. When the tour guide asked if anyone knew the two movies Tom Hanks had won an Oscar for, I yelled “Forrest Gump and Philadelphia!!” I couldn’t hold it in anymore. The whole time, I just kept imagining myself being there for the actual awards. One day, one day.

Living my dream,
