-“Can I get you something to drink?”
-“Sure, a water would be great.”
-“Really? You don’t want something else? Come take a look in the kitchen — it’s like a 7-Eleven in here!”
I proceeded into the kitchen, and the assistant showed me the spread: Coke, Diet Coke, sparkling water, still water, coconut juice, Red Bull, Izze soda… It seems that Ashton and Demi like a wide selection of beverages.
Today my LA adventures led me to the Kutcher’s home. Just like my run-in with Miley, I was at Demi’s because I was dropping off and picking up Lisa, the director working with Double Feature. I was rather disappointed when I dropped Lisa off because, while I got to see the inside of the home, I had to leave before I got to meet Demi. But when I went back early to deliver some updated scripts, things started to look up.
The chef who works for Demi and Ashton let me in, and Demi’s assistant told me I was welcome to just hang out while Lisa wrapped up. I got to explore the house a little, see the incredible set up outside with an amazing view of the canyon. When I went back inside, the family’s little dogs were running around the kitchen and I admired the collage of adorable photos on the fridge. There is no doubt that these two are in love.
After waiting a while, I heard a familiar voice, and I turned around a saw Miley opening the door from the den where she and Demi were rehearsing with Lisa. She walked out for a moment, then went back in to continue working. Meanwhile, Demi’s daughters wandered into the kitchen where I was waiting, and I got to meet them. They were so hospitable and polite. I already love this family.
When the rehearsal ended, Demi walked into the kitchen to touch base with the girls before she left. She introduced herself to me, we shook hands, and her assistant quickly whisked her towards the car. Apparently she was late for an appointment. Miley came out of the den as well, and just as most teenage girls do when they get a free moment, she checked her phone. She and Demi shared a moment as they were both heading to the door, and they headed to their cars.
Lisa yelled after Miley, something to the effect of “Miley, are you leaving? You never say goodbye!” We chased her out to the front — Demi had taken off by this point, but Miley was getting into a black car. This car had been waiting outside when I entered the house, but I hadn’t realized who was waiting inside: Liam Hemsworth, Miley’s boyfriend! Could this day get any crazier?!
As Lisa approached the car to harass Miley, Liam nodded his head to me and quickly threw up a hand. Miley and Lisa kissed, then Lisa told Miley how she had driven today for the first time in LA — she asked me to practice driving in my car, so I let her drive us from the place she’s staying to Demi’s. Miley asked “Oh, how did that go?” and she shot me a look. I replied, “Oh, she did great!” But when Lisa turned back to the car, I rolled my eyes and made a face at Miley. She laughed.
Miley and Lisa talked a bit more about the film, then Liam drove himself and his girlfriend off. Lisa pulled the car around for us, and delivered me back to the office.
Today was one for the record book. I reminded every day that there is no limit to what God can do. 6 months ago I was thinking it would be a miracle if I ever found an internship in L.A. And now it’s hard to believe that I’m getting to do and see all the things I’ve done and seen. God truly is showing off!
Living my dream,
Blake
