“The Sights and Sounds of Salzburg”
As if this town wasn’t charming enough already, everywhere you go you can hear bells chime from the various cathedrals, monastery and convent in the city. I feel so comfortable here, so content; at the same time, there is so much to explore and discover amidst the cobblestone streets and historic landmarks. Today was great because we truly took it easy and explored the city.
We had a great little breakfast at the B&B — fresh bread, WONDERFUL coffee, eggs, OJ, and oatmeal — then the guys and I did some blogging and “interneting” in the room while the ladies shopped around the city. When we all united, we journeyed into old town Salzburg, meandering through the various shops and admiring the sights.
My ultimate goal was to make it to Nonnberg Abbey, so we kept looking for its distinctive red-domed roof and wandering in the general direction we believed it to be. We finally made it there, and we, once again, delighted in seeing where various scenes from “The Sound of Music” were shot. Jordan and I really wanted to find the courtyard where “Maria” was filmed, and in doing so I accidentally walked into a room that I think was one of the nun’s bedrooms. Oh no! She was gracious, though — and I could tell that even though she spoke no English.
Hunter and Austin decided to venture further up the hill to the medieval fortress that overlooks the city, but the ladies and I decided we’d rather do something a little more tame, so the group split. We ended up sitting in a “Beer Garden” for nearly 2 hours, and the view was phenomenal. Today’s photo was taken from our table. We had coffee, ice cream crepes, and talked about film, cool celebrities, the trip, and life. Periodically throughout our leisurely afternoon the bells would chime down in the city. It was so lovely just to relax and soak up the city. And it’s a wonderful city at that.
We are currently enjoying some down time at the B&B, getting ready to go out for dinner. Tomorrow we will take the train back to Vienna, then fly back to France. I’m really excited about getting the hang out with the rest of the group this week and enjoy each other’s company. I think reentry into the U.S. is going to be really hard — I can already sense it. But I’m excited to see everyone and anxious to start my internship in LA.
Living the dream,
Blake
